This course provides hands-on experience applying concepts from Grouper Core training in real-world situations.
You will learn to integrate Grouper with applications, set up application structures, and implement access policies. This course also covers how to edit policies and manage access as ticket-based adjustments arise, ensuring participants can effectively provision data and adapt to changing requirements.

Grouper Core training or equivalent experience with Grouper
Course Content
Basis and Reference Groups- Learn the difference between reference and basis groups as well as how to create and manage them. Then practice how to implement subject attribute lifecycle requirements.
Access Policy Groups- Learn about the difference between policy and reference groups. Then practice translating language policy into digital policy using access policy groups.
eduPerson Affiliation for Authorizations- Learn how to do subject attributes management with policy groups. Then practice configuring provisioning to reflect group membership into OpenLDAP. Finally you will configure Shibboleth to release eduPersonAffiliation for loosely defined authorization use cases.
Policy Groups and Static application permissions- Learn about policy groups and static application permissions. Practice implementing the Grouper security model as well as configuring provisioning to LDAP for eduPersonEntitlement and configuring shibboleth to release eduPersonEntitlement.
VPN Access Control- In a series of lessons you will use group math and reference groups to analyze legacy authorization groups, translate natural language policy and implement distributed access management. You will practice provisioning vpn_authorized to OpenLDAP and implementing distributed exception management. Finally you will learn about custom UI and deprovisioning.
ABAC policies- Learn about how user attributes can be used to construct ABAC policies and how to view the Grouper data dictionary. Practice implementing an attribute-based access policy.
Entity Data fields- Learn how to create a new data provider and load student rows. Practice adding a student part to existing ABAC policy.
Components- Learn how to explain the different parts that make up Grouper and how they interact with each other.
Diagnostics- Learn where to get basic diagnostics data and what each diagnostic type means as well as where to go to troubleshoot.
Configuration- Learn about Grouper’s configuration overlay system and where to find information about configuration management with the Grouper Containers.
Notifications- Learn about Grouper notification types and notification jobs.
