The InCommon Community Trust and Assurance Board (CTAB) has scheduled an open office hour to discuss the proposed new Baseline Expectations for Trust in Federation. The session will take place Tuesday, May 5, 2020, at 1 pm ET (Noon CT, 11 am MT, 10 am PT). Zoom coordinates are at the bottom of this post.

The proposed requirements to be discussed include:

  • TLS Encryption of endpoint URLs
  • Enabling simplified access to research and scholarly services
  • Security Incident Response Trust Framework for Federated Identity (SIRTFI)
  • Multi-factor authentication in a federated context

The Baseline Expectations wiki has the details of the proposed new expectations and the consensus process.

During the open office hour, CTAB members will briefly review the proposed new baseline expectations and then ask those attending to provide feedback and also describe their needs to enhance trust and security of services relying on InCommon federated identities.

Background

Enabling research and collaboration are core to the mission of the InCommon Federation. As organizations increasingly rely on this infrastructure to deliver results, its functionality is more critical than ever. InCommon Baseline Expectations is the community effort to make the federation valuable by enhancing security, the user experience, and operational practices by all participants over time.

The first round of Baseline Expectations achieved a 100 percent participation rate. Baseline Expectations v2 is intended to address the next highest priorities within the community.
