InCommon Federation is hosting a new tutorial at the 2025 Internet2 Technology Exchange (in Denver, Colo., Dec. 8-12, 2025) – Federation Day – and you’re invited.
Co-sponsored by the InCommon Community Trust and Assurance Board (CTAB) and the InCommon Technical Advisory Committee (TAC), Federation Day will bring together stakeholders from across the InCommon community to explore recent developments, challenges, and strategic directions.
We’ll connect the dots between key efforts—such as assurance, metadata, attribute release, and technical tooling—and discuss how they support the evolving needs of research and education.
Why Federation Day?
Through the years, InCommon has built a strong foundation of standards, profiles, and guidance. Adoption, however, has not always been consistent. Many participants are looking for a clearer, more coherent way to connect the dots.
That’s where Federation Expectations comes in. It’s a new framework for strengthening trust, usability, and interoperability across the federation by making adoption of good practices more consistent and sustainable.
What Can You Expect?
Federation Day will feature:
- A State of the Federation update — assurance, multi-factor authentication (MFA), attributes, expectations, authorization, and futures.
- Community-driven presentations and emerging initiatives.
- A joint panel with CTAB and TAC members on aligning efforts across the community.
- A whole-room discussion on how Federation Expectations and related work can guide the next phase of growth in research and education.
