More About Richard

  • Best Advice He Ever Received (& from whom): You don’t get what you don’t ask for. (David Wittrock – at the time – dean of the NDSU Graduate School)

What motivated you to volunteer with the InCommon community?

It was a relevant community to get involved with for my position. I’ve been involved in various open source communities for quite a while, so this was kind of a natural fit.

In what ways has volunteering benefited you?

I get to see how other organizations are solving similar problems to what I have. I also get to see new technology or standards early.

What do you enjoy most?

The collaborative nature of the committees.

Would you recommend volunteering to your peers?

Yes, we need more voices from the community. It’s also a good way to learn about what other organizations are doing.

What advice would you offer to peers who are considering committee participation?

Go for it. Apply, join up, or provide feedback on calls for information. There are a multitude of ways to participate.
