The last three years seems like a whirlwind around the virtual InCommon office, with all of the community work to build out an identity and access management suite of software (now the InCommon Trusted Access Platform), and subsequent requests for related training and education.
Our community architects have identified some of the solutions the software provides for research and education:
- Managing access
- Enabling scholarly collaborations
- Providing for guest systems
- Managing the entire identity lifecycle
You’ll find more information at the new incommon.org, specifically on the Solutions page.
The InCommon Academy
We also heard about the need for training, particularly during last year’s Campus Success Program, where schools worked together on adopting the software solutions.
Thus was born the InCommon Academy to develop training programs for the solutions and for individual software components. BaseCAMP (August 13-15, 2019, in Milwaukee), for example, will provide an opportunity to learn the basics of the software suite, the InCommon Federation, and identity management in general. The Academy will also build on the successful Shibboleth workshop program that InCommon has operated for years, and has already developed and held the first Grouper training (and COmanage is next).
Starting in 2020, the InCommon Academy will develop online versions of some of these sessions, along with InCommon Federation instruction.
