The eduroam-US Advisory Committee (eAC) is pleased to announce the opening of a Community Consultation on Baseline Expectations for eduroam-US

These expectations reflect the community’s willingness to hold itself accountable for providing a successful, valuable, interoperable, and trustworthy shared resource.

The consultation will be open for community feedback until Dec. 22, 2025, at 8 p.m. ET. We hope that you will take this opportunity to share your ideas and insights as the community collaborates to achieve this important milestone for the eduroam-US service.

What are eduroam Baseline Expectations?

As the number of eduroam subscribers and service locations grows and continues to expand far beyond eduroam’s traditional research and education base, so does the need for eduroam to mature and scale into a more consistent and highly trusted community of wireless networks.

Every stakeholder has an interest in ensuring the eduroam-US service provides a consistently high degree of quality, user experience, supportability, security, and privacy.

To this end, and inspired by the prior work of Baseline Expectations for Trust in Federation, the eAC drafted baseline expectations for the eduroam-US service.

As these expectations take root, the community will collaborate to develop and publish detailed implementation guidance. Progress toward adoption will be communicated as the adoption effort advances.

For more information, please reference the recording from IAM Online on Oct.15, 2025, featuring eAC members Derek Eiler and Mike Dickson.

A Forum for Your Feedback

This consultation provides an opportunity for the community to review the draft, suggest improvements, and help shape the final version.

We welcome your feedback on the proposed baseline. This information will also be shared during the 2025 Internet2 Technology Exchange, and specifically at Mobility Day. Whether in person or online, we look forward to receiving your thoughts, questions, or ideas on the draft eduroam-US Baseline Expectations.

About the eduroam-US Advisory Committee

To facilitate stronger and more responsive engagement with the eduroam community, Internet2 sought out knowledgeable, motivated volunteers to form the eduroam-US Advisory Committee. The eduroam-US Advisory Committee (“eAC”) is an advisory body to the InCommon Steering Committee. Its role is to help formulate strategies and practices for US and global research and education roaming networks, report any findings, and make recommendations to the InCommon Steering Committee and Internet2. The eAC meets regularly and establishes working groups on specific subjects as needed. You can view the committee’s charter, learn more about its mission, and view publicly available meeting minutes on its wiki page.
